Day 1: Kuala Namu International Airport - Tangkahan (5 hours drive)
Arrive at Kuala Namu International Airport, then drive to Tangkahan - the Elephant Lodge, which takes around 5 hours. Arrive at Tangkahan, cross the Batang River by local raft or by new bridge to your lodge inn.
Two nights stay in a lodge (basic).
Day 2: Tangkahan Elephant Trekking
After breakfast, visit the Elephant Camp where you can see the elephants bathing. You can join to wash the elephants. After that start trekking with Elephants for 1 hour to explore part of the Leuser National Park. Rest of the day is own program; you can walk along the Buluh River to see thousand beautiful butterflies by the river, visit and bath at a small waterfall in the rainforest close to the river, or swimming in the Buluh river itself.
Day 3: Tangkahan - Bukit Lawang (4 hours drive)
In the morning, leave Tangkahan and drive to Bukit Lawang.
Upon arrival, visit the feeding platform to see the Orangutan while being fed and prepared for release back into their natural habitat. The excursion starts with a short walk along the river ban and crossing the river with rubber boat or traditional canoe, continuing the hike amidst the thick and hilly bushes until you reach at the platforms where regularly, twice a day at 8am and 3pm. After that continue with a 3-hours jungle trekking. Steep, slopes and dense vegetation will bring you to the excitement of the Sumatra rainforest. Here there is a opportunity to see several species of indigenous flora and fauna. Walkers must be fit and have suitable, comfortable shoes.
Day 4: Bukit Lawang - Kuala Namu International Airport (3.5 hours drive)
Today drive bak to Medan to catch your flight to next destination.
* Elephant Ride is not available on Friday
* Accommodations in Tangkahan are basic, built with simple materials to keep in harmony with nature. Electricity run by own generator and not available after 10pm. Room is equipped with mosquito net and has own bathroom which comes with shower with cold water only (no hot water).
* Those who bring camera/video in the Orangutan site will be charged additional USD 6.00 for camera and USD 18.00 for video (subject to change depending local regulation)
* Most guests can see Orangutans at the feeding platform, but it is not 100% guarantee. Sometimes Orangutans do not want to go down to the feeding platform because of fruit season in the jungle. In this case, they like to stay in the jungle than go down to the feeding platform. This is a natural reason and we cannot do anything in this case.
